Guy Cottam was a director of an international civil engineering
contractor. He now specialises in contractual matters and Dispute
Resolution.
He has an in depth knowledge and understanding of ADR and in particular
mediation having been heavily involved in the original preparation of the
Academy's mediation training courses.
He is an active member of the Institution of Civil Engineers having
served on council, been chairman of the Arbitration and the Conciliation
and Adjudication Advisory Panels, and is currently chairmen of the
Advisory Panel on Legal Affairs, and SCOPCOL the committee which sets the
examination in law and contract procedure.
He was responsible for creating the ICE Training Courses for
Adjudicators and Conciliators. He is a regular Course Tutor and Trainer
for the Academy of Experts the ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers), CIArb
(Chartered Institute of Arbitrators), CIOB (Chartered Institute of
Building), and TeCSA (Technology and Construction Court Solicitor's
Association).
He has extensive experience as a mediator mainly in construction and
engineering disputes. The size, location and nature of these mediations is
varied. They include bridges, harbours, power stations and roadworks and
have values that go into millions.
He is a past Secretary and Deputy Chairman of The Academy of Experts.
