SJE Select

What is SJE SELECT

SJE SELECT is an independent service offered by The Academy of Experts to the legal professions for the selection of independent qualified Single Joint Experts.

The Single Joint Expert, which was introduced in 1999 through the civil procedure rules (CPR), has forced opposing sides in an action to agree on a single expert to investigate and give opinion for both sides. CPR also gave the courts the power to impose an SJE where the parties are unable to agree.

By providing an independent service the Academy is in a position to provide a selection of ‘neutral’ Experts that the parties can actively agree on without the imposition from the court.

What does SJE SELECT Provide?

To ensure that the Parties maintain the maximum amount of control over the process The Academy offers a number of options. With the information supplied and depending on the parties’ preference The Academy will:

  • Select an appropriately qualified independent expert for the parties to appoint; or
  • Provide up to three experts from whom the parties may jointly select an SJE to appoint; or
  • When the application is from one side only, will if requested approach the other side as a neutral intermediary with a selection .

In addition to selecting an Expert who is competent to accept an instruction for a case, information provided by the applicant will be used to minimise the risk that those selected have a conflicts of interest.

All SJE SELECT experts will have agreed to be bound by The Academy’s Code of Practice for Experts (click here) and will comply with appropriate Models and Guidance.

What does it cost?

SJE SELECT is a premium service from The Academy of Experts which can save many hours of fruitless research and frustration.

The fee of £100 will only be charged when the process has been completed by The Academy and the appropriate details as requested have been forwarded to the applicant.
